Fun Stegosaurus Facts
Plates for Display: The large plates on Stegosaurus’ back were likely used for display, perhaps to intimidate predators or attract mates.
Tiny Brain: Despite its large size, Stegosaurus had a very small brain, about the size of a walnut.
Tail Weapon: Stegosaurus had a spiked tail, called a “thagomizer,” which it used to defend against predators.
Slow Mover: Stegosaurus was not very fast, moving at a top speed of about 5 mph.
Herbivore Diet: It had a beak and small teeth suited for chewing plants, including ferns and cycads.
